"w" command issue

hello,

on a system sometimes I notice that "w" command works very slow or hangs - eg. it lists per each 3 seconds 2 lines and stops for 3 seconds and lists next 2 lines... I don't observe problem with name resolving... (the problem is noticeable in root's and common user's sessions)

Anyone can tell me what causes such "w" behavior, knows a solution or workaround for such issue?

Have you tried to clear you wtmp file?

If the problem still exist then you might have problem with your utmp file!
