When sending an e-mail to a certain address outside the office, the message does not go through. If I look at the properties of the message in the "sent items" folder it says "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for xxxxxxx.org" where xxxxxxx.org is the address we sent to. This only happens with a few e-mail addresses. Is this on our end or theirs? To my mind this is saying that the address we tried to send to is trying to relay through us (knowingly or not). Is that true?

Thank You

If you can blame the problem on the other end, that's that way to go.. But if you need any proof, some good LOGs would certainly help.

Make sure you turn on Verbose Logging on the Gwia, then send another message.. Watch the gwia.. or grab the log file after you've received the failure, and then you should be able to see exactly what happened with the communication between your server and theirs.

And if you want to completely take the blame off of your end, try telnetting to port 25 of their mail server and do a manual email, using all of your domain and address info. That will tell you a lot if it still gets rejected. If it goes through, then you need to dig back into troubleshooting your own system.
