"Turn off computer" won't turn off computer

I am having some trouble with WinXP Home. The only way I can get it to shutdown is to "Switch Users" and then in the screen with the users, use "Turn of computer". I had "trojan horse", but I thought I had that all fixed. The symptoms are all gone but this one. Is this a virus or worm?

All help is apriciated.

backup your data and rebuild your pc..this is your cleanest solution.

But I agree with marcs41, a more thorough examination of any malware issues should be done.
