I'm running Backup Exec 8.5 to backup my Exchange 2000 server. I have a bunch of these error messages in the logs...

WARNING: "John Doe [JDoe]?Top of Information Store?Inbox?FW: MII-Weekly Management Report.xls" is a corrupt file.
This file cannot verify.

WARNING: "John Doe [JDoe]?Top of Information Store?Deleted Items?FW: MII-Weekly Management Report.xls" is a corrupt file.

Any ideas what this means?

Thanks,
Chris

This registry edit will fix this problem in most cases, but not all. I used it and it worked for a few days and then started again.

How to prevent Backup Exec for Windows NT and Windows 2000 from failing a backup operation when encountering corrupt files during the backup process

Hope this helps somebody,

That solution is for file level corruptions, not emails. Go to that users Outlook and open the suspect email. Open the attachment in Excel put in something like a space in a blank cell. Save the file, close the email and choose to save the changes.

This should force an update of the attachment in email depending on your Outlook client version. The problem should go away. Other than that, have the user delete the email or the attachment.

There are way too many to do this all the time. Most of the corrupt files don't have attachments, they're just regular emails. It happens when backing up Exchange mailboxes.

I was looking at this document yesterday, above.

I'm going to write a batch file that will stop the AntiVirus software 5 minutes before the Exchange backups. Another batch file will start the AntiVirus software after the backups complete. I'll let you know if this solves the problem.
