I am getting this error message when I try to view a report embedded in VB. I think it means that there is a problem with the sort criteria but I can't see one in my report. Can someone help me please.
You are probably using a formula that refers to a subtotal. If so, you can't change the group on the fly without making the group also a formula. Is that your situation? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Guide to using Crystal in VB
I know very little about Crystal Reports and have inherited the title of Crystal Contact at my company.
Basically I have a report that has 4 groups (Insurer, Executive, Policy Type and Transaction Type). These 4 items also appear in 4 list boxes as part of a sort option on a VB form. If I choose to sort on Executive by itself the report works, if I choose any of the other options, the report errors. Now this is where I get confused. If I select, say, Insurer and then Executive, the report works. I am well confused.
Is it worth me sending you a copy of the report files and related VB code.
The problem is that you have a formula that uses a subtotal by executive. This will error if there is no group by executive, since w/o a group there is no subtotal. You can fix the report by removing all of the formula reference to subtotals, but that will probably make the report less useful.
The real solution is to correct the formulas at the same time that you pass the groups to the report. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
