We're having a problem with Outlook 2003 - the problem is this, if we insert an item (another email) into an email and send it - the person opening the email can view the inserted item once, but if they close it, and try to re-open it, Outlook says "The operation failed".

You have to exit Outlook and go back in to be able to open the item again.

WEIRD!!!

this is company wide though mate!

not just me.

PS did you mean a windows profile, or a mail profile?

Manik,

we run Outlook 2002 and i see that a lot when users paste and copy attachments between mails (i know, an item is not an "attachment"). This is a know error at Microsoft, see the links below:

FIX: "Operation Failed" error message when you try to paste a file into a message in Outlook 2002, or the file is not attached when you try to attach it in Outlook 2002
and
You receive the "The operation failed. An object could not be found" error message when you click Send and Receive in Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2002

Its not 100% what you are describing, but the root to the operation failed error is nevertheless always the same.

Cheers
Sebastian

You could turn on Cached Exchange Mode within the users Outlook profile.
