Hello,
I have inherited an Access database.
This morning, when I tried to open the database, I got the following error "The database has been placed in a state by user "" on machine ' ' that prevents it from being opened or locked. The database (front end and back end) is sitting on a shared drive so that all of the users can get to it.

I am the 'admin' for the database. I am the only one making changes to forms/reports etc.
The ldb file cannot be deleted because it is in use.
The only machine listed in the ldb file is MINE and I cannot even get into the database.

I have made a copy of the database and I am able to get into that.

I cannot replace the locked database with the copy because Windows tells me that the file is in use....

Help?
I have read numerous articles on this and cannot find a suitable resolution.

Are you using ADO? Is the database split?

I don't know if it is ADO. (Sorry - I didn't create the database)
It is not split. All data and forms and reports are sitting on a shared drive. Nothing is stored locally.

I think that you will find that a database with both data and forms is going to be a problem for development. With ADO, if you make any changes to code or forms etc, you cannot access the data properly until the code has been saved, even if you are the only user.

suzieq123,
get everyone out of the db. delete the ldb file (btw there is always only one entry in it if i remember correct)
open up the db, do a compact and repair.
regards,
longhair
