hi all,

How can I change the "tab space after" of the headings that are displayed in my ToC. E.g. the "tab space after" value of heading 1 is put to '1.5', however this value is to high for display in my ToC. I would like to adjust the layout of my ToC independently.

thanks
j.

Hi,

What version of Word are you running?

Where do you see, the "tab space after" of the heading? I cannot find such a setting either in Styles or TOC.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Hi again,
Upon further investigation and assuming you are using at least version XP, bring up the styles and formatting task pane. Select the style you want to change. Right click and select Modify. Click on the Format button (lower left). Select Tabs. Enter the tab setting. Click Set. OK out of the dialog box.
Now when you use the heading style and hit the tab key, it will move to the tab stop you selected.
HTH,

Best,
