I'm running Backup Exec 7.2 on an NT Server with service pack 6a. Today I had to restore a directory from last weeks full backup which had a 'successful' status. While I was navigating to the directory I wanted to restore, a directory higher up in the tree had a red X through it. The directory I wanted to restore and 135 others (containing several GB of data) were not backed up, and there was nothing in the backup log to indicate there was a problem, no errors, just a 'successful' status. I checked and found the same thing happened the previous week. I was able to restore what I needed from a 3 week old backup and recent differential backups. Has anyone seen this before?

Is it possible that this directory or the files in it were locked and you have the "skip locked file" option on? Just a thought.

James P. Under the advanced settings I have it set to back up open files with a lock. I can understand it skipping the open file, but it seems strange to me that it would end the backup at this point and mark itself successful, and not even indicate in the job log that something was skipped.

This sometimes happens to myself. I have not pinpointed the problem yet. Have you had any problems with simple file restoration? My backup box is going crazy with messages like "Unknown media in slot 10". I have backed up twice successfully last week, but this week, it may be possible that I am having the same problem that you were......unsuccessful successful backups. I will let you know if I find something out.
