Using SPS 03 SP1

When you do a vanilla install of SPS, the links at the top of the portal are Home, Topics, News, and Sites. I have hosed up my "Sites" page and now I cannot view it, I keep getting errors about webparts. If the "Sites" page gets deleted, how can I get it back again if I have no backup and without re-installing SharePoint?? Also, how do I customize it, do I have to use FrontPage?? TIA

Hello,

You can create your own "site Directory" if the old one has been deleted. You can create an area based on the Site Directory template. It might be a little tricky to get it to work though. You might have to go to the site settings in the portal and turn on so that you can base any sub-areas on anykind of template.

In the errors when you go to your "Sites" area, do you get any information about which webpart does not work? Do you have a link to the Webpart gallery so that you could remove the webparts that are causing the problem?

Customizing SPS is not always an easy task, and doing it through FrontPage can cause major problems. Always make sure you have a good backup before doing any kind of customization (and especially in FrontPage).

Cheers,
Thomas
