Hi Everyone!

I have an excel spreadsheet here and fixed up formulas for calculations. I need to export the data to tab delimited text for use in quark express, in excel it looks like this:

0105 Dinner Plate 10" £2.40 per 10 £2.81 per 10

...in the text file it ends up like this:

0105 "Dinner Plate 10""" £2.40 per 10 £2.81 per 10

...notice the extra quote marks on Dinner Plate 10"...

...any ideas? It does seem to be excel chucking these in on export to text file as when viewed in a text editor they are clearly there...

...many thanks in advance...

Andrew

...nevermind people, it is the way excel deals with tab delimited text and apparently no way around it I have discovered...

At least you can load it into a text editor like notepad and Edit,Replace to fix it. First replace double quotes with something else like [QQ that will not already appear in your file. Then replace single quotes with nothing, then replace [QQ with a quote.

Or in the Excel file, replace 10" with 10 in, which will get rid of the pesky extra quotes.

...trouble i found with replacing in the source excel file is that it wants to also change the formulas that create the calculations...

...so i decided to paste the whole to a new workbook, special paste too so that the values only came across, now in the new workbook i can then perform a replace of some kind...

...i have yet to decide on a replacement text, as when this is laid out in indesign or quark i will need to revert to quotes again, client request, and also a space issue as this is a huge amount of data to fit in the final layout...

...joy...

: )

...question marks i thought might be a good one to replace with...

..or even exclamation marks perhaps...
