Okay, this may be a stupid question...

I generally start my excel functions with an equal sign (=) but a coworker starts a lot of hers with and equal sign and a plus sign (=+). What's the difference?

Exammple:

=sum(G2:G35711)

or

=+sum(G2:G35711)

hi,

No need for anything but the EQUAL sign.

This is before my time, but I think "=+" is a holdout from the days of Lotus 123.

I still use += because I am an old fart who started out with symphony back in the day.

I don't even put the =, just the +, excel adds the = for me.

For reference, in excel simply starting with + will also work (I find this more useful since + is on the number pad but = is not). I know this works at least in the windows version of office, but does not work in other programs like OpenOffice.org

Hope this helps.
