I have a customer with a Merlin Messaging R4.0 that has the following issues: When someone presses *8 in either a mailbox or an auto-attendant it prompts for the extension, says that it is tranfering the call, but always transfers the call to the operator instead of the correct extension. They have 3-digit extensions and the messaging is set for 3-digit extensions, what else could be causing this?

To transfer to a specific extention - out of voicemail - the extention HAS to have a mailbox - OR be deignated as a transfer-only extention. Otherwise - they will go to the operator.

I thought of that and these users do have mailboxes. It is happening universally over the entire system. No extension can be reached by pressing *8, they all go to the operator.

Ah - then you forgot to "roraty enable" your voicemail ports. Do that - and will be well!

I meant ROTARY ENABLE - sorry - bad eyesight and two-finger typing!
