I would like a way to place a semi-transparent stamp on my ID documents with the word "PROOF" and the current date/time. The date/time is important because some documents go through multiple revisions before being finalized.

I created a TIF in Illustrator that says "PROOF," and I can Place it on top of my ID documents, but I don't know how to add the date/time.

I tried printing "Page Information" under "Printers Marks" in the Marks and Bleed section of the Print dialog, but my documents are 8.5 X 11 and I'm printing them on 8.5 X 11 sheets; the "Page Information" prints outside of the document's boundaries.

Can I move the Page Information so it prints within the boundaries of the document rather than outside of it? Or does anybody know how to make a dynamically updated Date/Time stamp that I could Place in my ID files?

In InDesign CS3 there is an option under:

Create a Master Page and make a text box with the word PROOF at, say, 5-10% black at 45º then

Type>Text Variables>Insert Variable>Modification Date

Hope this helps...

To add to Marcus, another possibility

Do the Text box with the angle and black at 5-10%, insert the text variable.

Then File>New>Library

Put the box into the Library.

Then any pages that you want to have a proof, simply place your proof stamp on the page, you may have to send it to the back when you place it. But at least you will always have that proof stamp available to you, through the Library.

Another good way, just drag the box of text off the page and onto a folder in your hard drive. This creates a snippet. You can load the snippet into your library if you want. Snippets are a great little option that InDesign has.
