Hey All,
I get the below messages when running a Crystal 8.5 .rpt report, and trying to connect to an ORACLE database.

When running the report, or clicking "Verify database", the messages come in this order:
1) The library "pdsora7.dll" cannot be found. Please check your installation.
2) Cannot open database.
3) Physical database not found.

I go into "Add database to report", and my oracle server doesn't show under 'More data sources'.

This machine has the oracle client installed on it. Other machines surrounding this one can see the database, but not this one. Thanks in advance,

Ben Morton

Click on Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->ODBC Sources->System tab and see if you have the Oracle database set up

Do I need to have an ODBC connection to the database set up here if I have oracle client installedon the machine?

I do not have any oracle entries here for my other PCs.

Hi,
First, No you do not need ODBC - the Oracle SqlNet client is enough..

Was Crystal installed after the Oracle client?
Are you using CR Professional or higher ( Not Standard)?

Was the Oracle connectivity installed when CR was..In 8.5 is was, IIRC, an optional part.

Turk,
The oracle client was installed before the Crystal developer's edition was put on there (I think). How can I check if the oracle client was installed when Crystal was installed, and does it matter?

I am not sure what you mean about "Are you using CR Professional or higher ( Not Standard)?" ..... as far as I know it is just standard.

Ultimately, how can I add the oracle database to this report?

Hi,
'Standard' version of CR ( IIRC) does not support some of the connectivity features that the Professional and Developer versions do..( use the Help..About menu choice to see the version you have)

Anyway, try these steps:

Run SqlPlus ( would be part of a standard Oracle client install) and try connecting to the same database as the report is using...

If that works,it means the Client is correctly installed - so then go to the Control Panel..Add/Remove Programs and select Crystal Reports..Use the Change/Modify
option to see what is installed and verify that Oracle is on the list.

Let us know the results...

Turk,
I was able to get into SQL successfully, so oracle is installed right.
And I went into the add/remove programs to see what was set up for crystal, and the oracle entry was not under the 'Data access' section. I could not figure out how to add it, and I spoke to one of my co-workers.
He gave me the actual pdsora7.dll file, which I put in the c:\winnt\crystal folder and it worked!!

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help.

Ben
