I have a frustrating problem with Crystal Reports 8.5. Whenever I try to load a report based on Paradox table data, I get the following error message when selecting the Database menu:

"PDBBDE error: Unable to locate idapi32.dll"

Additionally, when I then try to view the report using the Refresh (lightning) button, I get an error for each of the tables used in the report, in the format of:

"Error opening file.

File could not be found: "[table's name]", at file location: "[table's location]"

Where [table's name] and [table's location] should be substituted appropriately. Any reports based on SQL Server tables work without incident, so it's just Paradox tables (or rather, the Crystal interface to them).

The last two error messages shown are:

"Unable to open database"
and
"File not found"

I've seen similar reports to this on the web and newsgroups, but no answers. The tables are definitely in the right location. The report is in the same directory as them, with 'Same as report' used for the table location.

Can anybody help me?

My thanks in advance for your time.

Jay

Hi Andrew.

Thanks for pointing that out - I omitted to say in my original post. We're running BDE version 5 with the 5.11 update. It isn't that causing the problem - or at least it's not the absence of BDE causing the problem!

Any other ideas, folks?

Thanks,

Jay

Just to update this one, part of my problem here was that Crystal Reports 8.5 doesn't explicitly support Paradox 7. A document at says that it's Paradox support and tested platforms are versions 8 and 9.

The choice has come down to either my customer remaining on Crystal Reports 7, or us upgrading the tables from Paradox 7 to (at least) Paradox 8.

Case closed!)
