One of my coworkers was cleaning his computer of spyware with Spy Sweeper. He got rid of some things that it had picked up and once he did, his ie was showing "Page cannot be displayed" no matter what he typed in.

First thing I tried was to ping some sites, everything worked fine. Then I downloaded mozilla and was able to access the internet with no problem. I then tried a few other programs and was able to access the internet through Real Player as well as Microsoft Money. The last thing I tried is what really confused me, I opened up his My Documents and typed in an address there and it worked with no problem. So the problem has something to do with the IE on the desktop and I know they are kind of the same, but why could I access it through windows explorer but not internet explorer. I am completly stumped. Please Help, thanks.

Perhaps a setting was modified by mistake under "Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections", particularly under LAN Settings.

Also, is there a firewall installed? What happens if you type the IP address in the URL field? Does the page load?

I checked the connections settings and nothing is set as it should be and I tried it with the firewall on, open and turned off. I have not tried to type in an ip address though, I will have to try that but by my understanding of what I have done I dont think it will work.
