Hi All, I need help.

I have one of the phone that got "not in service" message when someone called internally and got a busy signal when it is called from outside.

I looked up this ext # in the BCM Manager and i found out that this Ext. is places in inactive DNs.

How can i activate this Ext. again or move it to Active set DN?

What can possibly the cause of the issue?

Thank you

The only way is to plug the phone in as in is unplugged.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

One thing I have found at some of my locations, is someone one would swap phones and not change the label on the phone and think that's the new number. use that phone to cal another to see what the display say's the calling number really is.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

My building is about 20 miles away from this site. I just got the ticket regarding this issue and I have not check onsite yet.

The only information that I have: not in service" message when someone called internally and got a busy signal when it is called from outside.

I checked the BCM and show that this Ext. in "inactive DNs" List.

i will check with the user on Monday. Thank you Acewarlock

The only way to become inactive is to unplug the phone or the phone be defective. you can't program it that way.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Is this a BCM50? There is a location in element manager where you can check the status of the connected phones, as well as enable/disable phones (which places them into "maintenance mode"). Something I've found though is that if you disable a digital telephone port, and re-enable it, it's pretty much causes the same thing as if you were to unplug and re-plug the phone back in.

If the phone is damaged however, it probably will have little benefit, but it's still worth a shot.

If you go to Resources > Telephony Resources and click on the module connected to the phone, you will see a list of all phones attached to the module and their current state (whether there is a phone connected or not). If you click on the port that is connected to the phone causing issues and Press the Disable button, That will disable the port and place the phone in "maintenance mode" which means you can't use it. Pressing the Enable button will re-enable the port and hopefully re-trigger the phone in operating again.

Hope that helps.

OH..... and if you do this, make sure you press the Disable button under "Set Port Details" at the bottom of the application.... NOT the Disable button under the list of modules, or else you'll disable the entire module and all phones attached to it!

But it doesn't make them inactive.

If youre unsure of what the ext. is press "Feature *0" and then key assigned to the button of the phone to find out what the ext. is. From there you can update the info and assign the necessary line.

Well, the phone was unplugged from the wall. The user unplugged the phone since the phone is acting weird. Here is the weird thing:

It rings for 30 seconds loudly and all the lights flash non-stop, while no one is calling in to and the phone worked for 1 phone call, then it doesn't show # that the user press. Then it rang loud and all lights are flashing red. Then, all it goes to normal.

It is kind of weird and the user is the only one that having issue. I am planning to replace the phone today to see if it will be fixed.

Swap the phone with another one in the office (turn of set relocation first). If the trouble moves with the phone, replace it. If the trouble stays at the extension, you probably have either bad wiring or a bad port (or a combination of the two) and need to fix the cause.

Use the GUI interface:
3.X

Services> Telephony Services > General Settings:

Highlight Feature settings on the left and change the Y to N on Automatic Set Relocation.

I don't remember off the top of my head where to find it on a 4.0 unit, but I think its under General Settings as well.

Set relocation was set to N. It seems that I have a bad port or wire. I moved the phone to other location and it is working fine, and I plugged a new phone and it has the same issue.

How can I move it to a different port?

To determine whether the trouble is the port or the wire, punch a rj-11 jack down on the suspect port at the system, thereby eliminating the wiring. If the phone works correctly, then the wiring is bad.

If you do not know how to perform wiring changes, call your vendor to do the repair and hover over the tech's shoulder (i hate this as a tech). You will need special tools if you want to perform wiring work yourself.

I replaced the pair with a different pair and it seems that it is ok now (it has been 24 hours). If the issue is coming back. I amy have to more it to a different port.
