"My Documents" files open very slow

When I first start up the PC, the files within "My Documents" open as they should, very quickly. After about 5 minutes of the PC running, the files suddenly take about 2 minutes to open. I have done a scandisk and defrag.

I am running WindowsME with MSOffice 2000 Professional.
