"mount: mount-point /var/run does not exist" error

I get this error and the system boots into single-user milestone.

I ran fsck, and after fixing the errors, it comes clean on the next run.

But my system still can't mount /var/run.

Can someone help?

Has anyone ever lost his /var/run, /var/adm, etc. directories??

Can you boot off the cdrom and mount up just the /var slice to see what is there?
