"Message Waiting Indicator” is lit but automated attendant states "You have no new message

I have an end user whose “Message Waiting Indicator” light is lit on her Nortel M3904 but when she checks her voice mail box is informed by the automated attendant that there are “No new messages”. This is a sporadic occurrence.

I’ve DISU'd and ENLU'd the TN. No change.

Could it be the Nortel M3904 itself? I have not taken any steps to test my equipment theory.

First check all numbers on set besides key 0 to see if you have any other numbers that appear only on this phone and have a mailbox. If that does not work list messaging wait ext. in your voicemail system to see if another set is assigned that ext. number for message waiting.
