I just purchased and downloaded AntiVirus 2005 for Windows XP. Everytime I run LiveUpdate, I get an error notification saying "Couldn't create callback object" - it seems to be related to CleanSweep, which has a red X adjacent to it after updating.

I have been through three days of futility trying every fix posted on Symantec's web site - and I sitll have the problem. At this point, I've concluded the product is buggy and I'm wasting my time. I have two questions about this:

(1) Does anybody know if this bug affects how well I am protected from viruses?

(2) Any recommendations for other antivirus software? I'm willing to pay - I don't need free software. (I'm still within the warranty period on Norton 2005 - so I can get a refund!)

I do not have a solution, but have been working on this problem off and on for several months (low priority).

I had installed Norton Systemworks 2005 (including Antivirus)on a new HP desptop with XP Home (SP2). This ran fine for quite a while, then I started getting the "LU1848: Couldn't create callback object".

I have followed the written support procedure several times (including registry updates, uninstall/reinstall, and manual uninstall/reinstall) with no success. Online assistance was excruciatingly slow walking through all of the same steps so I bailed out of that.

All programs seem to function normally and most do seem to get their updates - but the error message continues.

Hopefully, someone has found a fix.
