"invalid stream format" in phone manager

upon installing phone manager everything appears to install with no issues but when attempting to open actual program "invalid stream format" prompt appears and program does not open

we are running 2000 xp. tried installing various pm from 1.4 to 2.1.10.

This commonly happens when you install one version on top of another without uninstalling the older version first.
