"Invalid exchange descriptor" error on Solaris 2.6

Does anyone have any idea what error 50 EBADE - "Inavlid exchange descriptor" on Solaris 2.6 means?
(I am using an application that occasionally gives an error, and I can trace this ultimately to the EBADE error. The application isn't mine & I can't debug it any further.)
Any hints or explanations would be welcome!
