Gateway 7324GZ notenook, 2.8 P4 with window xp pro. Previously, it usually reboots itself unexpectly, so i decided to reinstall the windows xp pro. During the beginning of the reinstalling, it kept giving me "NTLDR is missing" error message. I was able to bypass that problem by reboot and retry several times. Finally I was able to start reformat and reinstall the OS. But, once it finished the step called "installing devices", the computer reboots itself and restarting to "installing devices". And, this step is just keep looping. Any suggestion?

Remove any attached USB Devices and other easily detached devices and see how it goes.

The hard drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic bootable software to thoroughly check the condition of your drive.

Checking the RAM on the machine might be worthwhile too.

Turning off any Bios scanning might help if applicable.

Upgrade the Computer BIOS.

Setup stops responding or displays an unrecoverable error message

If Setup is able to get some way into the install you can also review the Setupapi.log file, the Setupact.log file, and the Setuperr.log file (in the %windir% folder) to try to determine any problems.

You might be able to make use of BartPE (a mini XP self contained on a bootable CD and run from CD).
