Hi all,

I require information on "Idempotent" setting?
My knowledge so far is that:
1. It is an attribute that is set for EJBs.
2. It is also a configuration maintained in IPlanet server in obj.conf file.

I need to know, what is the result/use of setting this attribute in both the above cases.
Any input is highly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Idempotent means that you are able to apply a transaction to a piece of data (usually in a database) twice with no ill effects.

In some cases you can do this (SET ExpiredDate = 2004-12-31), and in other cases you cannot (SET Balance = Balance - 200). It all depends on the nature of the task you're trying to accomplish.

Chip H.
