Please , i am seeking some help .
Recently i installed some games on my PIII and 9 of the 10 times that i am going to run them i am receiving a "general protection fault" message or the computer just freezes .
I didn't have problems so far .My card is a Viper 770 non ultra . One of the games required directx 8.0 that are now installed (i had 7.0)
What can be causing this problem ?
Thanks in advance !

Have you updated your video card drivers to the latest detonator version? Also, what is the exact error message? What caused a GPF in what module? Hi and thank you for answering !
As i said i have a viper 770 non ultra . I visited nvidia's site and i downloaded the latest xp drivers that didn't work for me... the image was blocking then moving and then blocking again continusly so i stayed with the previous version that they have archived ...
The error is varying but most of the times is as follows :

general protection fault!

History: ULinkerLoad::VerifyImport <-UlinkerLoad::VerifyLinker<-
UlinkerLoad::UlinkerLoad<-UObject::GetPackageLinker<-UObject::StaticLoadObject<-(Core.Class UndyingShellPC.MainMenuWindow NULL)<-UObject::processEvent<-(AeonsConsole Transient.AeonsConsole0,Function
UWindow.WindowConsole.UWindow.PostRender)<-UGameEngine::Draw<-UWindowsViewport::Repaint<-UwindowsClient::Tick<-UgameEngine::Tick<-UpdateWorld<-MainLoop

This is it... does it make any sence ?
Thank you for your time !
Best regards

Okay, are you at least using the Detonator3 drivers? What OS are you running?

Are all of these games using DX8 or just a few of them? Did you have this problem with DX7?

I have never seen or heard of the error message that you have. Obviously the GPF is very common but not the message after.

Hi ,
i am using the win9x_21.83 drivers from nvidia's site that are WHQL Certified . Not saying if it's the detonator 3 but i also searched the driver forums and didn't find something else .
My OS is windows ME ,PIII 500mhz ,128 MB ram.
Not all of the games are using DX8 but all are giving this error after i installed DX8 .
While using DX7 i had some blue screens with fatal exceptions sometimes but nothing special ...
I really can't seek where the whole thing is wrong as i tried some games that i had before and they started normally...
The only other thing that can be considered strange is that suddenly is opening the MSDOS prompt on start up...
I have checked the system for conflicts , viruses , wrong registries , scanned the disc etc and everything seems fine..

Did you install DX8 or DX8.1? If it wasn't 8.1, install that and let me know if that resolves your issues.

The DOS prompt opening at startup is definitely strange. Did that happen after installing DX8, a game, or something else?

I installed 8.1 trying to see if it would solve the problems too...
The dos prompt starting appearing suddenly after 2 days from the games and DX8.1 without installing nothing else...
The only reason that i can find is that maybe during the restarts a .dll file has been lost ? Is that possible ? This as i know could cause the dos prompt launch on start up...

It is possible for something to happen during an install, especially if the power "twinges" in the least, but I've never encountered something like that.

Is the dos prompt looking for anything or does it say anything? Check your Start ~ Programs ~ Start up folder to see if there is anything in there.

Okay, the next route that I can think of is a tough one. Let me know if you are willing to try it. Uninstall the games that you installed, uninstall DX8 (go back to DX7), and lets start from there. Is that okay with you?

No , the dos prompt is not saying nothing ...just c and is waiting for order...
Well... i am seriously thinking to format but let's give it a try ...
