I created a web site at my office in FP 2000 and have it on a CD... I brought the CD home to do some additional work, but when I attempt to call it up I get a "...file not found..." error... the data is clearly on the CD...if I just run the web site from the CD it loads/displays fine...but when I try to open it via FP2000, it attempts the load & I get the error..can anyone help???
thanks

HI there,

I had similar problems previously, and it could be a number of things....

When you copied the files to the CD, did you copy all the hidden directories and files as well (like _vti_cnf etc), I think FP2K uses these files to track links etc, and may need them before it can open the web.

More likely though (and this is what happened to me) it is because of file permissions. I'd burnt a web to a CD, then copied it to a hard drive - resulting in all the files being read-only (same as on a CD). I couldn't open the web (same message as yourself "File not found").

I changed all the file settings to make them writable, and problem was resolved.

Hope this helps...

Arion23..Thanks for the insight...I likely have the problem that you had w/your site...now the hard part...I have "just enough skill to be dangerous"...so can you walk me thru the process of changing the file settings...if I move the entire file from CD to my hard drive, what next 1-2-3...
thanks

Sure, once all the files are on the hard drive, select them all and right-click on one of them.

In the context (popup) menu that appears, choose properties.

You will see an information window open with various properties, one being file-attributes. Just untick the "read-only" attribute, then Ok.

You might have to repeat this for each subdirectory in your web...
