We are having a very strange issue with both XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit clients when we moved some CAD files over to a Windows 2008 STD server. The problem is only with the files that end in .dwg and it does not matter what program opens the files (Autocad 14, Solidworks DWG Editor, DraftSight, etc)
If the user browses to the folder on the 2008 server by either drive letter or even UNC path and double clicks on the .dwg file the program of choice will open, but the program will say that the file is in use and can only be opened read-only. All the users have read-write access and are able to change the files if they do the following:
- Open the program and browse to the file in the "Open File" dialog
- Open the program and drag and drop the file into the program
- Click Start run and enter "Path To Program" "Path to File"
The only time they have the issue is double clicking the file to open and it is only DWG files. This was not a problem when the files were on the old 2003 server and it does not affect other file types in the same folder.
