Hi. Hope someone can help with this...

I have done a lot of work on a form since I tried to add a record. There's a tab control with five tabs, three subforms (not nested) and many new controls. When I thought everything was working, I began to test the form and when I attempted to add a record, making an entry in the second control (long integer) an error message pops up to tell me: "Field cannot be updated."

For the life of me I can't find anything wrong with the control where I get the message. The only help I could get from FAQ was the suggestion that if ANY field on the form cannot be updated, the message can pop up in the beginning.

I've printed the documentation (many pages!) of the form...can't find any locks or other unusual stuff...

Any ideas?

Thanks a bushel and a lot!

Any calculated controls, or default values accidentally entered as control sources? What about relationships between tables in the main and subforms? Those are the problems I can think of where I got that message.

Hi...
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I'm sure now that my problem arose after embedding sub forms with calculations that are not saved but the caculations are made in a module that refers to a field in a table. I can't do without the calculations or the module, so I've made a new "Data Entry" form without the complicated math, and so far it works fine to use one form for entering new records and the old form for display, edit and the calculations. One day the kink will show up again, and I'll eventually find it.
Thanks again for your help here and in previous posts.
