Here's something I'd like to do with a to-be-purchased MICS or BCM system.

Each room at our church will be equipped with a 7100, and the DN will be 2xxx where xxx is the room number (2107 for Room 107, 2203 for 203, etc.). The rooms are also used during the day by our school (which has DNs in the 24xx range).

What would be the best way -- if possible -- to set up the system so that a call to 2403 could actually be directed to the appropriate "real" DN. (For example, the third grade class meets in room 107, so 2403 would go to 2107.) Would a hunt group work? There are only a few of these that I would want to setup, so running out of groups wouldn't be a problem. Or, is there an easier way? (BTW - these xtns won't have VM, so that's not an issue).

We haven't purchased the system, so I can't give you any specifics (type, size, etc.)... just looking for general advice for the Norstar series.

Thanks in advance!

Matt

You might want to set up "Answer DN's" on your sets, for example put an Answer DN on ext 2107 of ext 2403, when 2403 is called it would ring at 2107. You would do this for your "Fake" DNs with their respective ext numbers and the real ext numbers associated with them.

Roldan,

Thanks for your reply! I thought about Answer DNs, but I didn't think that would work for two reasons. I didn't know an answer key would work on a 7100. I've never tried it because I thought the answer key had to be a key with an indicator, which the one on the 7100 is not. Also, I had hoped the call would come in on the intercom line of the destination station, so the call could be answered simply by picking up the handset.

If I want too much, just tell me!

Thanks again,
Matt

The answer key will not work with 7100 sets
can't think of a solution at this time...

Thanks Westcoaster, sorry Elturko. I don't mean to steer anyone in the wrong direction, but I wasn't sure if it would work on a 7100 set. I looked in the book and it didn't say anything about Answer DNS not working on them, so I figured it would work. I personally have not tried it, but I'm assuming Westcoaster has so there you go. I guess it's back to the drawing board. Good luck, though.

Why not just change the DN to the room number? Or are you using DIDs?

answer dn will not work with 7100 sets and ata's. programming will be accepted for this, and all will appear to be correct but when it comes time to work... no go. Learned the hard way...

If you use hunt groups you can assign the DN of the room to the phone and the dn of the school to a hunt group with only one member (the room) if someone dials the hunt group then the phone gets the call. Make the phone appearance in the hunt group ring only so it will not take a button. You have a limit of 30 hunt groups on a mics. JerryReeve

JerryReeve,

Thanks! That's what I was hoping for! Now if I can just get them to buy the system.................. ;-)
