"Explain" feature of PowerPlay Web 1

1. COGNOS documentation of PPW suggests that:
"To view explanations for individual cells in the PowerPlay Web display, right-click the cell, and then click Explain."
2. The * TIP says:
"If an item other than an individual cell does not contain descriptive information in the Explanation window, you can ask your PowerPlay administrator to add it to the cube."

I have tried several methods and placing "descriptions" in all 3 places in the model for a Dimension/Category. In PowerPlay Client, the explain feature works.
In PPWeb, the feature ONLY works for the 'measures'.

Does anyone have a working solution for #2 above??

I'm looking for a confirmation that the "explain" feature
on a Dimension/Category does or does-not work in PPW.

I certainly cannot get it to function as the documentation
suggests, and we would like.

I have received 'confirmation' from COGNOS.
This feature does NOT exist in PP Web.

Any Level within a dimension can have a description and you can choose explain to show the description for that level in PPWeb.
I don't know about whole categories, I'll have to check that out.

I believe you are incorrect. At least for the version we
have. It is not working. A COGNOS tech support guy couldn't get to work either.
The only "fixed" descriptions that work are for the Measures.

Under the Properties, Source Tab, the Role description allows you to put another column as the description for your value. We are using V7.1 and I have a cube in production that uses this functionality.
If you are talking about the Description tab, where you can free form type a desc for the whole level/dimension, then as stated above, I don't know whether that works or not.

I've tried to use the Role Description...... We cannot get
the description to appear anywhere in PPWeb. PP Client, yes.
What steps do you use to be able to see your descr. in the cube?

We are running V7.1 on AIX.
I open the cube, set my dimension as a column, right click on the Category I want to describe, select Explain, and the Role Description is the first item listed and is highlighted in yellow.

We are running V7.1 MR1 on WINDOWS / IE.

The method you describe is exactly as I intended to use.
For us, all I get is "X Column Path: 'category-name'", where the X is a little box w/vertical lines in it.

Strange how you can get it to work.
I'd like to see a screen print of it functioning.
