What would generate the following when a PDF file is opened in the Acrobat 5 reader from a browser (but not as a stand-alone reader)?
"Error reading linearized hint data"
I'm getting that error from a PDF file created inside Ventura Publisher 10, a typesetting program from Corel. Previously I used Distiller to generate the PDF but the latest Ventura goes straight to finished PDF. It will read OK using Acrobat 5 by itself, but inside a browser (such as from web site usage) the above error occurs.
My guess is that it has to do with fonts. I can create a few paragraphs or even a single page OK but multiple pages fail to read. The operating system is Windows XP, the Browser is IE6, the Acrobat reader is 5.05. Ventura permits numerous settings and configurations for the Acrobat file, including "embedding" fonts, converting True Type to type 1, and "optimizing for web." So far I've not found a variation that solves the problem.
