This is probably a no-brainer for most of you. I have just installed a Partner ACS 6 for a customer. They have Partner Messaging. 6 extensions and 30 phantom mailboxes. When I was testing the system this evening, I found that I receive a busy signal when dialing the phantom number. Am I mistaken to have expected the VM to pick up? Obviously there's no phone to actually ring. Also tried using a programmed Direct to VM button followed by the Phantom #, and this did not work either.

Do the phantom mail box extensions fall within the dialplan of the ACS (10-57)? If so, it should work. If not, it won't cover or ring as an intercom call.

The phantom extensions range from 16-47 so they are in the proper range. The one thing I can think of is that my VMS Cover rings are currently set to default, 3 rings. I will lower this to 1 ring. But, I expect to still receive busy signal. The phantom extensions are set to "no phone."

Well, the no phone only applies to transfers of calls from the vmail, so that shouldn't make a difference in a transfer from sets. Cover rings wouldn't return an immediate busy, only delay a busy to a dead-end. Now, I'm not sure how the system is set up, but some of those extensions *have* to overlap vmail extensions. That would definitely cause a problem. How's the system laid out?

Well, it's a small setup; 3 lines, 6 phones, phantom extensions as I described above. Using remote call forwarding on the 3rd line.... Partner ACS r6.0 Processor module & Partner Messaging module; VM extensions are 18 & 19 (2 vm ports). Do you think I have an extension capacity issues here?

Remember to set Auto VMS Cover to ON for the phantom extensions - #310-XX-1 where XX is the phantom extension number. Move the VMS Cover rings to 1 for them as well, just so the call is answered quicker. #321-XX-1.

It's OK to have phantom extensions on the same extension numbers as the voice mail ports with Partner Messaging and Partner Mail VS, but NOT with the older Partner Mail (the PC on the wall type).

If you create phantom extensions outside of the ACS's extension range, you can get callers there by transferring them to 777, (or hitting your "check messages" button), waiting for the log in prompt, dialing *8 and the phantom extension number, THEN hanging up.

I'll check the settings and implement these suggestions. Will post results next week. Thanks much!

Guess I never posted back. All the suggestions in this thread worked great.

Can you program a button on a CA48 for the mailboxes outside of the normal range? Some of my attendants will have apoplexy dialing <trans>777<pause>*8<extension>.
Thanks in advance

Hi rocketpwerdtelecom,
Sorry, no. The system will only accept extensions within the dial plan.
