"Catching" Hours 1

Is there any way to "catch" the hours in a cell and convert them to text in another cell. For instance - I have a cell with "172:10:20". The cell has been formatted to hhh:mm:ss, but still shows as "1/7/1900 4:10:20 AM" in the formula bar.

How can I get an empty cell to pull just the "172" and convert it to text?
