"bjbjt+t+" is inserted at the beginning of every Word 97 document on the computer. This happened all of suddenly last Saturday. However, I cannot pin-point any events that may have caused this. Ran a scan using Norton AntiVirus and it detected 6 files infected with W97M.Marker.gen virus and was able to successfully repair it. However, I still get the "bjbjt+t+" and the beginning of every Word document, lost all formatting in the document, and cannot save new formatting if I try to re-do formatting and save.

Any idea if this is virus related?

Thanks

Unsure if this is virus related or not, but have you tried renaming the NORMAL.DOT file and seeing if this is just text that got entered into the normal template and as a result is coming up each time?

John

Yes, I have renamed the normal.dot file and I have gone as far as delete the old normal.dot file and have Word create a new normal.dot file.

Seem to recall from a while ago that some virii change word so that it uses a corrupted source file to create normal.dot so that even recreating it doesn't clear the problem.
From long ago and the memory is getting dim.

I have done quick Google and AskJeeves searches for a solution and reason as to why it happens, as well as McAfee, Sophos and Symantec antivirus research centres.
There was no reason as to why it came up, but if it is any consolation, there are plenty of word documents out on the web that have that string in it.

John

In word go to File --> open. In the files of type window change "recover text from any file" to "word documents".
