Hi,

I run AS2000 SP4 on Win2kSP2
Tape engine update done
System ok

At this time, the job fails and I need to rerun the entire job or the node not backed up.

- Is it possible to resume a backup operation automatically on the next media after a "Bad Media" is detected?

- What could we done with a "Bad Media"?
Actually I (re)format the tape. Sometimes it works, sometimes not...

Thank you in advance

Fredje

Is the tapes you are using are old tapes if yes you need to replace them otherwise there is no use of your backup it is not relaiablable.

The tape media has a number of head passes assigned by vender after you pass the number of passes vender can't garantee the reliablity of the tapes.

What do you mean by resuming a backup operation automatically on the next media after a "Bad Media" is detected?

The only things I can say for Bad media is to througth them away.

There is no use of reformating them,You are putting your data in risk,The good backup is the backup which can be restored.

I agree our stock of tape begin to be old. ;o)
I think it is normal I meet this error.

I thank you verry much for informations about tapes management.
I'll avoid some problem thanks to you.

My question was:
When a long backup is running (I mean 9 tapes 40/80 for exemple), the backup fails if it try to write on a "Bad Media".
Is it possible that it do no fails but resume operation on the next media?

thx

Fredje

There is no way to resume the backup after it get fail the only way is to schedule a new job from the point it reached, this is whey I told you to avoid suing any tapes which you suspect it is an old one or has been used for long time.

Thank you Mohamdr (once again) for these precious infos.

;o)

Regards

Fredje
