I got the same error as thread962-928378 when running command "backup log ... with no truncate". I have been playing with it for two days, and I always got the same error either try it with T-SQL or Enterprise Manager. This is critical to point-in-time recovery and I got to make it work. Help please.

Thank you very much.

What method did you use to put the database in offline mode?

What is the end result you are trying to get?

I just right clicked the database in Enterprise Manager -> All Tasks -> Take Offline

I am trying this because I need to know how to do point-in-time recovery. I don't want to wait till the disaster really happened.

The way I learned to do point-in-time recovery is:

After the database is not accessible, do a 'backup log ... with no_truncate', then restore the latest complete database backup, then restore the logs.

Don't bother with the backup log with no_truncate since you are just going to restore over the database anyway.

Just start restoring it (after making sure that no one is in the database).
