Hi All,
I'm trying to set up NDS user accounts using FirstName.LastName format eg john.doe
I get the above error message when trying to create the account despite having set "allow dots in netware username" to ON in Netware client
Thanks in advance for any assistance

Regards

Dave

Hi Marvin
Thanks for the reply
I'm using NWADMn32.exe and DS.nlm ver 8.85c and NDS8 ver 8.0.9

Hope this helps.

Dave

PS I've looked in nwadmin help and noticed the format can be used but by preceding the . by \
eg john\.doe - but this doesn't look quite right. Are there any other ways around it as we wish to common naming standard in both NDS and ADS.
We did have one based on departments but staff movement and department name changes are occurring more and more frequently so we need something more permanent

NDS has not always been capable of using periods on the names.. I don't recall which version started supporting it, but you might try using ConsoleOne to create the users instead. You also may need to get up to eDirectory v8.7.3, assuming you are runnign at least NetWare 5.1 or higher.

The client setting you refer to only affects the client, but still relies on the backend being able to support it.

Hi Marvin,
Many thanks for the info - I'll try ConsoleOne
