"Alt Tag" in director

Is it possible to have an "Alt Tag" or something equvilant in director. So on mouse over a button a description appears. The buttons are built in Flash.

There are no automated ways to display tool-tips in either Director or Flash. However you can create the effect by using simple rollover script.

Try the built-in tooltip behaviour.
