Sorry for the crosspost but it was recommended that I post this in here:

I have a client who connects with AOL 9.0. She can use email and instant messenger fine, and she can even ping just fine. The problem comes with browsing webpages, either using AOL's version of IE or the "real" version of IE that comes with WinXP.

Whenever she tries to go to a page, the "action cancelled" page pops up after it tries to access 205.188.146.146. I am not sure what 205.188.146.146 is, but it does show up in the HJT log that is at the bottom of this post.

Attempts to get to Google by inputting the IP address directly into IE, in attempt to get around any DNS problems, also result in action cancelled.

I have tried WinsockFix, Spybot, HJT, restoring IE defaults, etc. to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

WHOIS says that 205.188.146.146 belongs to AOL.

There's no place like 127.0.0.1.

Running a WHOIS report on 205.188.146.146 indicates that it's an AOL server. I would leave it alone for now.

As for the HJT log, I am far from expert in this, but the "R1" entries jump out at me. If it were me, I would check and fix the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about:blank

As I said, I would do it if it were ME. You may want to wait for confirming and/or dissenting advice from more experienced users, though.

Best of luck to you.
