i'm not sure if this question is in the right forum, but here goes.

my friend's computer just recently(last week or so) started a habit of dialing for no reason about every 5-20 min. now of course there's got to be a reason, but I wasn't able to find it over the phone.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
i'm going to my friends house today to see if i can fix the problem, but if i dont fix it at least i'll have some more details.

here's some of the things i already know about it

Windows 98FE
Netscape 4.7 as primary browser(IE 5.0 as secondary
Real Player and other plugins etc.

again, thanks in advance!

What has changed to cause this, Ie new software/downloads/plug ins installed.

Do you have the number is it trying to call.

If so is it in dial up networking, can it be deleted? [sig][/sig]

It's most likely the Microsoft update engine.
Check the task manager, and internet properties of IE to disable the update manager. [sig]
Jim
reboot@pcmech.com
<a href= & Sue's Free Files
Current moderator at Staff contributor/moderator at Windows 9x/ME instructor.
