I installed vista home prem. over my xp installation last night and its running fairly well so far - had an issue with IE7 not running, but solved that problem after searching the web for similar issues.

Here are 2 things that Im running into that I need your help with

1.) Im still running office xp pro (same settings, etc. - just installed vista 'over' my xp install -- i.e. not a clean install of vists)... when I run MS outlook, it keeps prompting me for my email accounts' passwords -- though I check the box to have them remembered / saved... it just wont 'retain' them. When I close and re-open outlook I am prompted again to enter them. any idea what I need to check in vista to see about this?

I've tried the 'repair' option for office xp - but no luck.

2.) the other issue is I have a duplicate user account (same name as my default admin. level account I always use) that seems to have been created by the install of vista... when vista loads it tries to start with this NEW / copy account, but the password doesnt work and it rejects the login... when I choose the account with the SAME name (that has my own graphic / icon that I had since the xp install was active) Im able to type in the correct password and it loads fine.

Whats even stranger, is after Im logged in and I go too user accounts, I dont see that other duplicate copy of teh user account. So I cant delete it. Is there a way to specify which account vista uses to log in automatically? I used to use tweak UI to manage this and I have the new tweak ui for vista but dont see a setting to allow me to control that.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Too late for this, unless you have an Image of your old XP (is that Home or Pro?). A clean install in conjunction with -

Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP and Windows 2000

would have avoided all these types of problems, perhaps.

In your current situation perhaps uninstalling Office and re-installing that may fix the password problem.

You can look at this type of fix, it may work, but it is more for XP than Vista.

User Account folders are located at C:\Users, what have you listed in there? There is also access to Profiles stored on the computer via Advanced System Properties/ User Profiles. You can right-click on the My Computer icon to get there via Properties.

Auto Logon in Vista

So, we will be wrong together, you can take solace in "great minds think alike". Mind you there is nothing in my mind that could be classified as great.

Thanks all... when I do 'lusrmgr.msc' I get a message saying since I have vista home premium I cant use that snapin/feature... I have to use the user account tools under the control panel.

When I look in c:/users I only see one folder for the (seemingly) duplicated user account.

I also changed the name of the user account to see if that would help the issue, but when I booted, that same duplicate account with non-working password appeared!

OK, I forgot that lusrmgr doesn't work in the home versions. What about the outlook password problem? - was that resolved?

Home Premium, and Home Basic, obviously don't have some of the bells and whistles found in Ultimate or Business, so it appears you are limited to accessing User Accounts via the Control Panel.

You might still have access to the Profiles of users via the Advanced System Properties/ User Profiles, have you looked in there?
