Quiet Keyboard

Does anyone know of a particular brand or model of laptop that has a quiet keyboard? Most of them, in a very quiet environment, are actually very loud. Thanks.

It will only be as noisy as the surface you use. If you use a padded surface, it will be dead quiet. Just google for laser keyboard.

I've never used one but I've heard that the laser keyboards are a nightmare to use. You have to type slowly to make sure you don't hit the wrong key.

Laptops can use normal USB keyboards so you could find one of those that's quiet enough and just plug it in. However that's only a solution if you don't take your laptop anywhere as keyboards are bulky.

Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is going into a shop and trying a few out. I've never used a laptop that I would consider to be noisy so I guess you have more sensitive ears than I do!

I agree that you will need to test-type on a number of different laptops to find the one that fits your typing style. I'm guessing you are a fast-typing hard-hitting touch-typist. Go to a store that has several machines out & open for inspection and type the same text on each, let your ears be your guide.

Also, I don't believe laptops should be bought sight-unseen. Get yourself somewhere where you can take a test-drive, you don't necessarily have to buy it there.

I have an IBM R50 laptop an I can just about hear it.




This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.
