Quicktime

I have some clips that are wmv's. I want to open them up on my mac, but for some reason - Quicktime or "I-Movie" on my MAC doesn't recognize and won't open them. How can I convert and what should I convert them to in order for "I-Movie" to recognize them?

u can edit quicktime's prefrences so it does open it...or is the issue that u can not even manually open it with QT?

How can I open it in IMovie? Do I have to use another program - open it convert it and save it a format that Imovie will open? Ultimately I'm trying to open it in IMovie.
