Quicktime slows other scripts

I have a quicktime movie (direct to stage, with controller, paused, on Windows) that when placed on stage (after preload) slows down all other scripts that are running....even before the user hits the play button. I.E.: I have scripts checking for sprite rollovers which, when rollover occurs, shrinks the sprite, replaces with different sprite and then stretches back to normal size....this slows to snails pace when quicktime movie is ont he stage. HELP!

It sounds like a memory management problem. The "preloading" of the video file will grab all available RAM. How big is the quicktime? You might want to crank up the memory inspector (menu item: Windows|Inspectors|Memory) to see just what is happening behind the scenes. I found that most quicktimes will run fine without preloading (I say that with much trepidation) you may want to do away with the preloading to test the results.
Another option is to check out a quicktime xtra that has a CPU booster which utilizes the CPU instead of the RAM - One such is DirectMedia Xtra by Tabuleiro which can be found on Macromedia site. Unfortunately it costs $$$.

Hope this helps.
