My QuickTime shows videos scrambled. I've uninstalled and reinstalled QT - which required deleting it from my registry! I thought that would help, but it didn't. I have/had this program called Divx Codec or something. I don't know how this got installed, or what it's used for. Could this be affecting or scrambling videos in QT?

Codec's are usually installed to help these sorts of problems. Divx is a pretty reliable source so I doubt that file is harmful. I used to have video problems with windows media player and I downloaded AngelPotion Video Codec and it fixed everything. I suggest you try that and see if it helps.
