Is there a way to insert a Quicktime Movie into a container so that it is not just a reference to the file?

yeah , just dont reference it when inserting..but rather embed it....or am I missing somethign?

The option to imbed the file is not available in any dialog box I can find. How would you do it?

Hi jester63!
1st think about what are you trying to accomplish.
If you 'embed' the file it will be stored in the databse it self and it will expand DB size but that much as the file itself.
Lets say you have 10 filename.mov and they are each 200MB in size ..your database will be able to contain (<v6) up to 2GB worth of files.
10x200=2000MB
This generaly is not the advised way to store large files but its benifits are that you use only 1 FM file and it is more portable, can be played from FM itself etc.
If you wish to refernce file then FM will only point to location of the file and the file itself will be open by quicktime. You depend on your database to always reference the file by full and exact path and files have to be moved along with the DB. On the other hand, you store only text values/paths and can have a lot rager collection/info stored in your FileMake DB.

some info on V7

Code:
Databases can store up to 8 terabytes of information – 4,000 times the old limit!
Container fields can store up to 4 gigabytes.
Text fields can now store up to 2 gigabytes (1 billion characters per field).

by default QT is embeded but if you wish to reference it you would
1. RightClick on container filed
2. Insert Object...
3. Create from File (browse to it,display as icon)
some example:

Hope this gives you enough info to make your choice...
All the best!
