Hi there,
Im new to Flash too and I am having exactly the same problem. I want to play quick time movies within a flash interface but I cant seem to work it out either. I can see that it uses a reference to the movie and keeps it as an external file seperate from the .swf but I cant see how to make it play! Something was mentioned about creating a button and then assigning the action to play the movie but I still cant get it to work. Hopefully someone will answer this soon I could do with the help also. Ive found the site

For more information on publishing your Flash file as a QuickTime movie, see Publishing QuickTime 4 movies.

When you import a QuickTime movie, only the first frame of the movie is displayed. You must add frames to the imported movie's Timeline in order to view additional frames in the movie in Flash. A QuickTime movie imported into Flash does not become part of the Flash file. Instead, Flash maintains a pointer to the source file...
I havent had a chance to try out this in full but I had a quick play and it seems to work. The only thing seems to be the size of the finished file, its very big!
I will have a play with the quality settings of the J-pegs sequence which I export from flash and see if I can cut it down.
This would maybe work for a CDRom but I would also like to post to web?
Ill have a play about over the next few days but thanks for all your help!
