I am playing with a "new to me" bcm50 release 6.0
i'll admit i haven't played with a release 6.0 for a few years
but i'm somewhat familiar with the release

i have a handful of IP sets (1140e's)
and i'm having a registration problem,

I defaulted the IP sets to factory using ***renew <mac>##
and the phones were just taken out of my working lab environment
so i know they can find a dhcp server (bcm) and the registration server S1 (also BCM) on my captive system

what they are doing, (or not doing) is,
they boot up like normal
they do their DHCP query
i see them get an address from the BCM pool (from the bcm webpage)
then they go looking for registration server (connecting to server)

and after a few seconds says "can't find server

when i go into the network set up on the phone after this event i see it in fact did get its IP address from the BCM DHCP server
and it did in fact get the address of S1 from the bcm (the bcm's IP)

so it's pretty clear there's no network issue here, its just flat network, no routing, no vlan's nothing

its almost like the "enable registration" radio button isn't checked off....
but it is...
I'm thinking i might un-check it
reboot bcm
re-check enable and
reboot again

maybe wireshark it, but i'm pretty sure i'm going to see a request hitting the network for the bcm when it tries to get a response from the registration server (bcm)

I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this or is it just my dumb luck!

thanks
rr

Did you try the IP set direct to LAN port?

i have 4 POE switches, kinda rely on POE when i do ip phones
i don't have a POE adapter for these phones handy, but i can try and find one here sometime today and try it...
only 3 devices on this switch i'm testing on though
Laptop, bCM and phone

If you factory defaulted the sets, make sure your S1 server port is set to 7000. I think the default is set to work with a CS1K.

yes, s1 and s2 both got set to 7000 when the set booted up
has me a little stumped
and its not set related, tried 7 1140e's off my other BCM
and then plugged them back into my old BCM network and they came up fine

thanks

Just a thought, but on the BCM system have you looked in the DHCP settings to check if it is enabled for IP phones only and that it has port 7000 allocated?.
